Anna "Mea" McMahon
LPC
they/them
with Wright Wellness since 2023
The canvas of my education is DFW. Here, I received both my undergraduate and graduate degrees in Counseling/Psychology. I have been a fully licensed LPC since 2013 and have worked in the mental health field for over 15 years. My experience is as diverse as the settings in which I have worked, including private practice, hospitals, group homes, rehabilitation centers, and community mental health.
Therapy begins the very moment you make the brave decision to step into the unknown, know yourself more deeply, and seek greater wholeness for yourself. Before you even contact the office, you have already become the catalyst for an amazing journey by choosing to take that step and trust someone with your story. It is sacred to share your story, allow yourself to be known, and make your voice heard. I honor that. You are not simply a collection of symptoms or struggles—you are a whole person who is open to the possibility of something more. In case no one has told you lately, I am proud of your brave.
As far as therapeutic approaches go, I would best describe myself as eclectic, meaning I draw from a variety of approaches to meet each client where they are. With my child clients, I utilize a child-centered play therapy approach because, with children, behavior often speaks when words cannot. Depending on the child's developmental needs and maturity, I may also incorporate TBRI, CBT, EMDR, and trauma-informed interventions.
With teens, it is important to me that they know their voice matters. My approach with teens and adults is collaborative, individualized, and trauma-informed when appropriate. I draw from EMDR, CBT, Gestalt, Motivational Interviewing, Person-Centered Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. Wherever you are, I will meet you there and allow you to help set the pace. And, with your permission, I will also challenge you to expand the way you understand yourself, your story, and what may be possible for you.
I also incorporate Geek Therapy into my clinical work, recognizing that games, stories, characters, fandoms, and imaginative worlds can provide meaningful ways to explore who we are and who we want to become. I will soon complete my training as a Therapeutic Game Master and look forward to expanding my work through applied tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs), including therapeutic Dungeons & Dragons. My goal is to develop therapeutic TTRPG groups for children, teens, and adults, using collaborative storytelling, role-play, problem-solving, and gaming to support connection, emotional regulation, social skills, self-exploration, confidence, and other therapeutic goals.
Whether we are talking across from one another, working through trauma, exploring patterns, playing, or rolling dice around a table, I believe therapy should be a place where you can safely explore your story—and discover that you have more agency in how the next chapter is written.
